About the service

What Juomakartta is

Juomakartta is a public directory of licensed Finnish alcoholic beverage producers. It covers beer, wine, spirits and other consumer-drink manufacturing licences from the open alcohol trade register of the Licensing and Supervisory Authority (LVV, formerly Valvira).

The directory is not Alko and not a bar. We do not sell alcoholic beverages in this service. A B2B part for restaurants and wholesale is planned; it is not yet in public use.

Goals

  • raising awareness of Finnish producers and drinks
  • centralized, up-to-date information on Finnish producers and their products
  • later, a portal / API for bars and restaurants connected to the service (not yet in production)
  • a licence-register-backed, reliable directory (not an unofficial list)
  • an easy way for producers to complete and manage their own data in the portal
  • transparent use of open data (LVV, YTJ/PRH) with source attribution
  • a shared data foundation for producer–restaurant collaboration when the B2B part arrives

How the site is built

The service is built on the Odoo 20 Community Edition platform. RockIT Oy develops Juomakartta with AI assistance.

Key features:

  • producer listing, search and filtering (region, locality, alcohol group) plus a map
  • producer cards with source boxes: LVV (formerly Valvira), YTJ/trade register, PRH financial statements, producer’s own data
  • drinks listing (/juomat) with style, ABV and location filters plus a map
  • «New producers» and «New drinks» highlights
  • producer portal: own data, products and moderation queue; claim form («Claim your listing») and invite link
  • data enrichment from open registers and the producer’s website; map points geocoded from the address (OpenStreetMap Nominatim) on a National Land Survey of Finland (Maanmittauslaitos) background map

How the data lives

Licence register (LVV)

The Licensing and Supervisory Authority (LVV) publishes the alcohol trade register as open data roughly weekly (avoindata.suomi.fi). Juomakartta updates overnight between Monday and Tuesday.

Juomakartta fetches active manufacturing licences and activates or publishes the matching producers. If a producer drops out of the LVV data, the listing is removed from the public directory (status suspended) and is no longer shown on the map or lists. Manually added or operator-archived sites are not handled by the same automation.

What is left out

The LVV register also includes licences that are not consumer-drink manufacturing. Juomakartta focuses on beer, wine, spirits and other everyday consumer drinks.

We leave out, among others:

  • Väkiviina — over 80% ethanol manufacturing (industrial / feedstock alcohol, not a normal drink)
  • restaurant and serving-only licences (no manufacturing)
  • warehouses and terminals without manufacturing
  • other industrial or feedstock sites archived by the operator

If a manufacturing licence covers consumer drinks, the producer appears in the directory according to the LVV update described above.

Åland (Ahvenanmaa) producers belong in the directory; the region is also recognised from village names and postal codes (22xxx).

Producer data from registers and sites

  • YTJ / PRH: official name, auxiliary trade names and possible website (source is marked).
  • Display name prefers the name that has a website.
  • Logo and short description may be fetched from the producer’s own site (source is marked). Data completed by the producer overrides the automatic fetch.
  • Map: addresses are geocoded with OpenStreetMap Nominatim. The background map comes from the open map service of the National Land Survey of Finland (Maanmittauslaitos).

Drinks from producer sites

Juomakartta may collect public basic facts about drinks from producers’ own websites — such as name, style and alcohol content — and show them in the directory without a separate permission, because that information is already public. Product photos and marketing copy are published only when the producer has allowed it in the producer portal.

If a drink disappears from the producer’s site, it is also unpublished from Juomakartta.

Revenue and result (PRH)

Where available, a producer’s revenue and period result are taken from the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) open digital financial statements.

This runs weekly after the other updates (licence register, company data, websites, products).

Only some companies have a digital filing; otherwise the producer page shows “No digital financial statement.”

These figures appear on the producer page, not on the Juomat listing.

Data may be incomplete or outdated. Producers can complete and correct their own listing in the portal or via the claim form («Claim your listing»).
